Mickey is a well-known retirement fund actuary and trustee who has taken a special interest in fund governance, research, and professional conduct. He has researched, published and spoken locally and internationally on retirement fund governance, risk management as well as matters of professional conduct and training.

Together with the late Prof Wendy McMillan, Mickey evolved the concept of the actuary’s Professional Promise. This led on to developing the Actuarial Society’s normative education capstone programme, and more recently outcomes-based CPD. Mickey was awarded the Society’s Murray Medal for his contributions.
